Mysql2::Error: Unknown table engine ‘InnoDB’

One of my project using mysql as backend happened cause Error: Unknown table engine ‘InnoDB’.

Try to login to mysql directly:

mysql> desc table_name;
ERROR 1286 (42000): Unknown table engine 'InnoDB'
mysql> show engines;

InnoDB is not found!

In this case just stop mysql server and kill mysql process, then start mysql.
Done.
